The Office Curmudgeon

Live blogging from my phone @ Living Water Christian Church this morning. Sang a song with the lyric “Jesus you are all I need.” I looked down at my son who was grabbing a bite to eat from his bottle. For the first time I seriously questioned “all I need.” You mean that doesn’t include my son?

That is the first time I’ve ever challenged that in my mind. It is challenging to say anyone’s first-born son is greater than mine in my life. Yet I pray that my son, my wife, and I enjoy an ever-lasting life some day.

Well, I haven’t blogged nearly as much anymore, and I never followed up from the CITRT event either. As it ended up, hardly anyone there blogged the event, and everything we discussed was over Twitter. If want to see our stream of conciousness on this, do a search for #citrt.

I have a good exucse for my busyness though. My wife and I began attempting pregnancy, rather than avoiding it, back in July of 2008. We were successful right out of the gate! Pania is 16 weeks along. Along with that news, I’m announcing babyslezak.com, where we will keep extended family and friends up to date.

We opened up the mail this evening to find the USCIS mailing that held Pania’s ceremony location and date!. It will be held in Topeka, KS at the Performing Arts Center on Friday July 25th at 12:30 pm. We were hoping that it would be a later date and held in town for a shorter drive, so more friends could attend if they wanted. Topeka is about 1.25 hours from where we live. :-/ Regardless, wife is getting citizenized and stuff. :p

My wife got up early this morning to take her citizenship exam. She passed with flying colors and didn’t miss a question.

She has been a green card holder since we first met, being of Indonesian decent. She grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia until the age of 18, when she traveled to the US for college. We have been married since May 22, 2004. USCIS provides study materials, which we studied together for days before this morning, so she was uber-prepared. One only has to answer 6 questions correctly. If you haven’t seen the study materials, you should check them out. I was born and grown in the US, and when I first saw the questions I could only answer the first 10-15! It is true that most native born Americans could not pass the test out of the gate.

She was excited when she called and told me she passed, and I’m proud of her. She has been putting off citizenship for many years, and finally decided to do it this year. Go wife!
