Lets remember that all health care is not equal and therein lies the problem. One cannot have "equal" and "fair" healthcare when not every doctor, nurse or pharmacist is equally or even minimally skilled in their profession. In a homogeneous nation like Japan or Sweden one might conceive of some national health model but in the USA quite frankly our gene pool is so mixed up that no statistical approach to allocating(err rationing) healthcare seems possible.

What will save our system which may not be good or fair but is the best in the world, is people paying for their own.

One last note, advances in genetic testing for the deveolment of new treatments in the allocation of old treatments is gonna have profound effects on our system.

Agreed it is a failure. It is moral failure for us not to help, that is correct, but others who do not carry the same worldview will think differently.

I personally, like you it seems, think the responsibility lies more on the individual and less on the government. I lean more towards states rights in the end anyway when it comes down to federal versus state.

Overarching principle: the people need to be brought back to the point that THEY make the difference and take the responsibility.. the gov't shouldn't be.

Wow -- $14,000 budget for the web site? I'm very blessed with time and talent to devote to our own church site, and we're in the middle of a redesign right now moving to Silverstripe for the CMS.

Well, if I was a salesperson and could sell a (generally more expensive) Mac to a person and possibly rake in an extra $99/year in training, I might be tempted to badmouth Vista too! I don't have extensive Vista experience but it's running well for me on my personal laptop, work desktop, and three others here including our senior pastor, my boss the Business Administrator, and our Facilities Director. We don't have the hardware to support Vista everywhere yet nor the budget to pay for the upgrade, but for new equipment it's not a bad choice.

To truly have meaning the woman would need to actually buy a Vista machine and use it for a while. Just being told by a salesperson that "she wouldn't like it" means nothing other than the sales guy wanted a bigger commission and/or is a parrot with no experience. Granted, a lot of salespeople at retail computer stores are in the same boat. And I'm trying to be nice here :-)

Not that I dislike Apple or Macs. I actually like them, but I've never owned more than my iPod or iPhone. I do dislike getting Macs to talk to a Windows domain on a corporate network, but that's a whole other set of issues.

Microsoft has also lost the mobile platform battle. iPhone is #2 behind BlackBerry and soon to overtake BlackBerry in my opinion. Also, a little tip for Mac users: Do not use MS Office for Windows. It's painful. I'm convinced Microsoft doesn't want it to work well on a Mac. Instead go for the iWork 2008. It's Microsoft Office compatible and runs much better on the macs.

I was a diehard Linux fan . . . and YEARS ago I was a Microsoft Fanboy . . . but over the years I got tired of the constant battles. Linux is running fine on my Dell laptop for my surfing needs and web server test environment, but then for my multimedia/etc... needs I now have my trusty iMac that I bought last December. I've saved so much time and frustration using that platform that I'm just awestruck at times how night/day different they are. I've used Vista and I can honestly say it's not that quantum leap product that Windows 3.1->Windows 95 or 95->XP was . . . this is XP with some window dressing. I can understand the "well it's the applications that cause issues" arguments, but if you have to jump through hoops dealing with the OS, on the platform, then it's ALWAYS going to be an issue. You have to control as many variables as you can, and having a Dell/HP/whitebox with XYZ video/sound/etc... and everything else in there as variables is just asking for taking it in the shorts on usability/reliability. I still trudge along with a XP system at my work place, right next to an old iMac G3, and my Dell laptop . . . I use all three daily in my job, but I'm very thankful when I get home to my real workhorse.
