Don’t Suck
So what is up with that banner graphic?
The present header graphic of this blog represents an inside joke turned simple philosophy, which I adopted while working at UM Church of the Resurrection over the past few years. The picture itself is one of my own, taken at a bi-annual college friend camping trip. One of us brought the game UpWords, some scrabble-similar word game. A select four set the game on an upright log and commenced playing. During the game, my friend Chris happened to pick the letters to spell what you see in the picture. I took a quick picture, recognizing it as our office humor.
So what’s the joke?
The joke, is that this is the bar we strive for. Expressed in Office Space quotes, this would be, “But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.” We strive not to suck at what we do. This also applies to vendors which sell us products. All we ask is that they not suck at selling us whatever we need to buy. If the buying process doesn’t suck, then we’ll be back to buy more later. If you don’t bother us when we’re working, and help us make purchases when we need to buy something, we’ll be back. If you call us incessantly, leaving us voice mail that you’d like to do business with us, make it hard for us to buy your products, then keep calling when we tell you no, but thank you – we will not be back because you suck.
So what’s the philosophy?
The philosophy, simply stated is excellence. In everything we do, whether it be replacing a broken keyboard, or supporting an advanced technical set up for your weekend event, we strive to do it with excellence. We try to go beyond satisfactory, to go above.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:8
